There are moments in life when we become aware of something we didn’t even realize had become part of us.
Perhaps you’ve carried a heavy grocery bag across the parking lot. At first, it doesn’t seem like much. But by the time you reach your front door, your shoulder aches, your hand is tired, and the moment you set the bag down, you realize just how much effort it had required.
Our emotional lives often work the same way.
Most of us don’t wake up one morning and consciously decide to carry grief, disappointment, sadness, or old heartbreak with us. Life simply happens. A difficult conversation. The loss of someone we love. A dream that didn’t unfold the way we imagined. Seasons of uncertainty. Moments when we had to keep moving because there wasn’t time to fully feel what was happening.
Little by little, the body learns to hold what the mind cannot yet resolve.
Over time, what was once a temporary emotional response begins to feel like part of who we are. We adjust to the weight. We stop questioning why certain situations trigger us, why joy sometimes feels just out of reach, or why it can be difficult to fully receive the goodness that is already present in our lives.
Yet beneath all of that, your natural state has never disappeared.
Joy has not gone anywhere.
Love has not left you.
Wholeness has not been lost.
They simply become harder to perceive when layers of unprocessed emotion begin occupying the space where life is meant to flow freely.
One of the greatest misunderstandings about healing is believing that we have to force ourselves to feel better. We think we must push through, think differently, work harder, or somehow become a new version of ourselves.
But true healing is rarely about adding more.
It is often about creating the conditions where what no longer belongs can gently release.
As the nervous system relaxes, as the body begins to feel safe again, and as our energy naturally reorganizes itself, emotions that have remained stored beneath the surface can finally complete what they were always designed to do: move.
This is why healing often feels less like fixing something broken and more like remembering something whole.
When we stop gripping what we’ve been carrying, we discover that life begins moving through us differently. There is more space to breathe. More room for gratitude. More resilience in the face of challenge. More capacity to experience joy without needing a reason for it.
Not because the world has changed.
Because we have.
Each of us deserves moments to simply pause, reconnect, and remember the extraordinary intelligence already living within us. Healing doesn’t always require striving. Sometimes it begins by becoming available to receive.
